MedStart-5
MedStart-5 was created to offer support to deserving cancer patients  currently in active treatment  who are in need of assistance with indirect or out-of-pocket expenses to continue treatment and aid in basic daily needs. Instead of a standard formula to calculate the amont of assistance provided, each application is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This method was chosen by NWN as a benefit to the patient as we recognize that each family's situation is unique.

Award amounts also vary however, a patient may apply once per year. The award cap is set each year by our board of directors for some of the following:

  • Transportation to/from medical facilities
  • Doctors co-payments
  • Meals during treatment
  • Special clothing
  • Special medical equipment
  • Lab testing
  • and much more

The Wound Center at Saddleback Memorial uses a variety of clinical treatments, debridement, medicines, dressings and support services to treat problem wounds, which has proven highly effective in facilitating the healing process. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a healing tool unique to the center. These noninvasive treatments provide 100% oxygen to promote an optimum healing opportunity. While breathing pure oxygen, the patient's blood plasma becomes saturated, carrying 20 to 30 times the normal amount of oxygen to the body's tissue, allowing the body's natural wound healing mechanisms (which are oxygen dependent) to function more efficiently.

This screening program is designed to find possible lung cancers in patients with one or more risk factors.  Lung cancer is one of leading causes of mortality in this country, killing more than 159,000 people per year.  Using low dose spiral computed tomography (Spiral CT), radiation exposure is reduced and the imaging is more sensitive than a routine x-ray.  We anticipate finding more lung cancer cases at an earlier stage to improve survival outcomes.

Using digital photography and computer software to create images of the entire surface of your skin, DSI helps you and your doctor track changes in the appearance of moles over time. DSI helps identify melanoma in its earliest stages, when it has the highest probability of cure, also helping reduce the number of biopsies needed to detect skin cancer.
